水戸黄門こと徳川光圀はうどんを打つのが好きで
来客に自分が打ったうどんを振る舞うことがしばしばあったとか

ところで光圀は兄・頼重を差し置いて
水戸藩主になったことを申し訳なく思っていて
自分に男子が産まれてしまったときには
「水にせよ（水に浸けて殺せ）」と指示したほどだった
ただし命令を受けた家臣が従わなかったどころか
頼重がこの事態を知って光圀の子を
養子として引き取ると言いだしたため
その子の命は救われた

その子が後の讃岐高松藩主・松平頼常である
